Hi Glen,

As you might have read, there is a consolidation of InfoProvider types for SAP BW on HANA. This is introduced together with the Eclipse Modeling Tools as of BW release 7.4 SP08 or SP09.

SPO will not be part of the consolidation. The Advanced DSO will get partitioning features in the future. In document SAP BW 7.4 SP9 powered by SAP HANA and Roadmap I read on slide 14 that a future enhancement is "additional partitioning options".

In SAP Note 2070577 - (advanced) DataStore Object - availability in BW7.4 SP08, SP09 and SP10 you can find even more concrete information. In the attached Excel workbook you can read the following:

Future Enhancements beyond SP8: SPO using Advanced DSOs

Planned delivery: Next FP

Comment:

Support semantic grouping: Next FP will enable a simple copy of advanced DSOs and their dataflow and link these aDSOs in a generated CompositeProvider for reporting and extraction

Last but not least, SAP recently introduced "Dynamic range partitioning" (DRP). However, this is not the same as logical or semantic partitioning (like SPO). It is database partitioning which can be also very effective of course. More information can be found in SAP Note 2081135 - Enable "Dynamic Range Partitioning" feature for DataStore objects (advanced).

Best regards,

Sander
