you should look for other log and trace files in the installation directory of SWPM which could make clear why the registration of the database instance failed. It could be even caused by wrong permission on MaxDB library files. Please check that the permission and ownership of directory /usr/spool/sql and subdirectories/filesare correct, on UNIX the owner and group should be sdb:sdba
